Carnation & Pocket Change… the Smell of Popcorn & Pecans…

I have no idea why I put pecans in the title… I think it has something to do with my little baby Sis smiling at things We remember together. That we were remembering together tonight.

What was it that we were texting back & forth.

THE MALL!

That’s right, Good Reader:

The Mall.

Summertime has a good deal of memories for me. Of cutting grass in fields; of catching Garter Snakes & Water Snakes & Milk Snakes./..

Of my Uncles passing-down the knowledge only Uncles can pass…

of horrible heat during the Ohio afternoons…

Of my Grandmother’s lemonade…

&

BBQs,

of sneaking off in the middle of the night to be in the woods…

of Tales From the Crypt at 10:00 or 11:00 on HBO… of The Smoggies playing; at eight in the morning, waking me up to wonderful heat – of horrible heat & Ohio sunshine brightness…

But what I remember most about the Summers – what I LOVE most to remember – is the Cinema.

The Saint, known as My WOW upside down (Yeah, figure that one out) would take Me & My brother & Sister to the movies.

Popcorn.

Special Pizza.

This glorious place called Pocket Change! An arcade across the way from the Theatre…

All of this was in a Mall… a Mall less than an hour’s drive from the family land. There was also a toy store, a record store…

All of these things (& more) are a major chunk of my childhood.

At this Mall, there was Christmas shopping…

teenage dates…

My wonderful sister reminded me tonight that is where I came from…

And I will return there.

This winter, I should go there.

Little Sis in hand.

Maybe I’ll drop some change, for ol’ time’s sake…

maybe buy a toy.
